An apricot is a fruit, or the tree that bears the fruit, of several species in the genus Prunus. Usually, an apricot is from the species P. armeniaca, but the fruits of the other species in Prunus sect. Armeniaca are also called apricots.

Benefits
Apricot is a sugar and fiber rich fruit, containing vitamins, minerals and different beneficial compounds such as vitamin C, Carotenoids, Potassium and Polyphenols. Vitamin C has antioxidant capacity and helps in maintaining a healthy immune system, promoting iron absorption and cell and tissue reparation. Carotenoids promote eye health and Potassium is beneficial for blood pressure regulation. Fiber content and its zero fat content makes this fruit beneficial for weight maintenance, bowel health, blood sugar regulation and cholesterol reduction.
Possible side effects
Apricot is usually a safe food although it may cause allergy in sensitive people. Dried Apricots containing Sulphites may cause allergy in sensitive people too, but the allergy would be related to the Sulphites that are sometimes added to those dried foods, rather to the Apricot itself.
