First Story of Bathukamma Festival
Earlier a batta king named batta Narasimha ruled the chola country. he is very pious. his wife's name is Satyavathi. A king lost his friends and relatives in a war. then he went to the forest with his wife Satyavathi. after that, he thought of Sri mahalaxmi devi in his mind and did a great penance. After some time, Sri mahalaxmi devi took pity and asked what boon he want.
Mother! have mercy on us and be born as our daughter. Shree mahalaxmi was happy at that and said dadastu. after some days Sri mahalaxmi devi was born in the womb of Satyavathi. sages and rishis were very happy to see the girl and blessed her to live well( challaga "bathukamma") and be disease free. from that day she called as "Bathukamma".
After the birth of bathukamma, the king returned and acquired his kingdom and ruled the kingdom. the people of that kingdom lived happily with happiness and joy.
Bathukamma grew up and became a teenager. lord Vishnu came as king named chakrankudu and married bathukamma. that couple ruled the kingdom with riches for a long time.
Bathukamma is known as boddemma by some people. some people call as Gauramma and worship. since bathukamma festival is celebrated. this is one of the story people talk.
second story of bathukamma festival
Earlier, a couple had 6 children and died in purity. finally, a girl was born in the 7th insemination. she was named bathukamma. also, a male child was born in the 8th insemination. bathukamma grew up and became teenager. bathukamma got married and went to aunt's house. her brother also got married.
One day bathukamma came from her aunt's house to visit her brother. there she went to pond with his sister-in-law (wife of bathukammas brother) there she went to bath in the pond with her sister-in-law. they left their clothes on the shore and did bath and returned after some time. because of the wind their clothes got mixed together and bathukamma mistakenly wear sister-in-law saree. her sister-in-law got anger and killed bathukamma.
The deceased bathukamma appeared in her husband's dream at night and told that she was killed by sister-in-law. The next day bathukamma husband went to their aunt village. he reached the bank of the pond; there he saw a tangedu tree and was about to cut flowers. then bathukamma spoke like this and said that she was killed by sister-in-law.
Bathukamma requested her husband that every year bathukamma should decorate with tangedu flowers and keep Gauramma on top, perform pooja. and leave bathukamma in the pond.
Hearing that, bathukamma's husband fulfilled his wife wish. since bathukamma festival is celebrated every year.

Telangana women make 9 bathukammma with different kinds of flowers, they offer 9 kinds of offerings and celebrate the bathukamma festival for 9 days.

- day 2: atukula bathukamma
- day 3: muddapappu bathukamma
- day 4: nanabiyam bathukamma
- day 5: atla bathukamma
- day 6: aligina bathukamma
- day 7: vepakayala bathukamma
- day 8: vennae muddala bathukamma
- day 9: Saddhula bathukamma
On 9th day Telangana women wear traditional dresses like lehenga, half saree, Saree. men will gather different types of flowers from forest. then women start decorating bathukamma from afternoon. After preparation bathukamma looks like gopura. after decorating bathukamma they will keep Gauramma in the top of bathukamma. then they start celebrations all the women in the village gather together and worship bathukamma with songs. they do traditional dances like kolatam. they offer different type of Naivedhyam to bathukamma. A special dish sattu is offered to the goddess. finally, they immerse bathukamma in water at evening. Gauramma is taken from bathukamma before immersion. women worship to gouramma and take it as a Naivedhya.
